Key Scriptures on Rest
God calls us to rest—not just physically, but spiritually and emotionally, trusting in Him as our provider and sustainer.
Rest in God’s Creation and Command
✅ Genesis 2:2-3 (NLT) – "On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when he rested from all his work of creation."
👉 God modeled rest from the very beginning, setting an example for us to follow.
✅ Exodus 20:8-10 (NLT) – "Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the Lord your God."
👉 Rest is not just a suggestion—it is part of God’s design for a balanced life.
Rest in Jesus
✅ Matthew 11:28-30 (NLT) – "Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.’"
👉 True rest is found in surrendering our burdens to Jesus.
✅ Mark 6:31 (NLT) – "Then Jesus said, ‘Let’s go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile.’"
👉 Even Jesus prioritized rest and encouraged His disciples to do the same.
Rest as an Act of Trust
✅ Psalm 23:1-3 (NLT) – "The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength."
👉 God provides rest and restoration when we trust Him as our Shepherd.
✅ Psalm 127:2 (NLT) – "It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones."
👉 Overworking without trusting God leads to exhaustion, but He promises rest.
✅ Isaiah 30:15 (NLT) – "Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength."
👉 Strength comes from resting in God, not from constant striving.
✅ Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT) – "Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand."
👉 Rest is found in surrendering our worries to God and trusting in His peace.
Eternal Rest in God’s Presence
✅ Hebrews 4:9-10 (NLT) – "So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God. For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world."
👉 God promises eternal rest for those who trust and follow Him.
✅ Revelation 14:13 (NLT) – "And I heard a voice from heaven saying, ‘Write this down: Blessed are those who die in the Lord from now on. Yes,’ says the Spirit, ‘they are blessed indeed, for they will rest from their hard work; for their good deeds follow them!’"
👉 Our ultimate rest is in eternity with God.
