POWER

Biblical Perspective on Power

Power, according to the Bible, is not about dominance or control but about serving, stewarding, and relying on God’s strength rather than our own. True power is found in God’s sovereignty, the Holy Spirit’s work, and living in humility and obedience to Him.

God Is the Ultimate Source of Power

  • 1 Chronicles 29:11 (NLT) – “Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is Yours, O Lord, and this is Your kingdom. We adore You as the one who is over all things.”
🔹 God alone holds all power—He is sovereign over all creation.

  • Jeremiah 32:17 (NLT) – “O Sovereign Lord! You made the heavens and earth by Your strong hand and powerful arm. Nothing is too hard for You!”
🔹 No matter how impossible things seem, God’s power is limitless.

Power Comes Through the Holy Spirit

  • Acts 1:8 (NLT) – “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
🔹 Spiritual power is given for God’s mission, not personal gain.

  • Ephesians 3:16 (NLT) – “I pray that from His glorious, unlimited resources He will empower you with inner strength through His Spirit.”
🔹 God’s power strengthens us from within.

True Power Is Found in Humility & Obedience

  • 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NLT) – “Each time He said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.’ So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.”
🔹 God’s power is revealed through our dependence on Him, not in our own strength.

  • Philippians 4:13 (NLT) – “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.”
🔹 True power comes from Christ, not self-reliance.

Power Must Be Used for God’s Glory

  • Matthew 20:26-28 (NLT) – “But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give His life as a ransom for many.”
🔹 Power is meant to serve others, not control them.

  • Proverbs 11:25 (NLT) – “The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.”
🔹 Using influence to bless others leads to true prosperity.

Worldly Power vs. God’s Power

  • Mark 10:42-43 (NLT) – “So Jesus called them together and said, ‘You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant.’”
🔹 Godly power is about servanthood, not self-exaltation.

  • 1 Corinthians 1:27 (NLT) – “Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And He chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful.”
🔹 God often works through those the world sees as weak, showing His power through them.

Godly power is not about status, control, or manipulation—it is about surrender, obedience, and relying on His strength. When we seek God’s power, we are called to serve, uplift, and empower others for His kingdom.

How to Lean into God’s Power

Leaning into God’s power means trusting in His strength rather than our own, surrendering our struggles, and allowing Him to work through us. Here are practical ways to do this:

Acknowledge Your Need for God’s Power

Key Scripture:

  • 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NLT) – “Each time He said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.’ So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.”
🔹 God’s power is made perfect in our weakness. Recognizing our limitations opens the door for His strength to be revealed.

✅ Action Step: Admit that you need God’s strength daily. Start your mornings with a simple prayer:
"Lord, I can’t do this on my own. Fill me with Your strength today."

Spend Time in Prayer & Surrender

Key Scripture:

  • Ephesians 6:18 (NLT) – “Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.”
🔹 Prayer connects us to God’s power. The more we pray, the more we align with His strength and wisdom.

✅ Action Step: Spend daily time in prayer, asking God for His guidance and supernatural strength.

Rely on the Holy Spirit

Key Scripture:

  • Acts 1:8 (NLT) – “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere…”
🔹 The Holy Spirit empowers us to live boldly and walk in victory.

✅ Action Step: Before making decisions, pause and ask, “Holy Spirit, guide me in this moment.”

Stand on God’s Promises

Key Scripture:

  • Isaiah 40:29-31 (NLT) – “He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.”
🔹 When we stand on God’s Word, we are filled with hope, strength, and endurance.

✅ Action Step: Memorize and speak Scripture over your life daily. Example:
"I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength." (Philippians 4:13)

Walk in Faith, Not Fear

Key Scripture:

  • 2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT) – “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”
🔹 God’s power overcomes fear and doubt. When we trust in Him, we can move forward boldly.

✅ Action Step: When fear or doubt creeps in, declare:
"God has given me a spirit of power! I will trust in Him and move forward in faith."

Serve Others with God’s Power

Key Scripture:

  • Matthew 20:26-28 (NLT) – “Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant… For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others.”
🔹 God’s power isn’t just for us—it’s meant to bless others.

✅ Action Step: Look for opportunities to serve. Whether at church, in your family, or community, allow God’s strength to flow through you by helping others.

Worship & Give Thanks

Key Scripture:

  • Psalm 59:16 (NLT) – “But as for me, I will sing about Your power. Each morning I will sing with joy about Your unfailing love.”
