The Seven Spirits of God
Scripture speaks of the seven spirits of God most clearly in Isaiah and Revelation. This does not mean God has many spirits. There is one Holy Spirit — but He reveals Himself in a fullness of expression. Think of it as the perfect completeness of the Spirit of God.
Here’s the scripture that names them:
Isaiah 11:2 NLT
And the Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him
the Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and might,
the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.
From this, we see the seven expressions:
-
The Spirit of the Lord
The Holy Spirit Himself, resting, indwelling, empowering. -
The Spirit of Wisdom
Knowing what to do, how to do it, and when to do it God’s way. -
The Spirit of Understanding
The ability to see truth clearly and discern what is really happening beneath the surface. -
The Spirit of Counsel
The voice of God guiding and directing our decisions and direction. -
The Spirit of Might
Supernatural strength. The power to do what He has called you to do. -
The Spirit of Knowledge
Divine knowing. Insight that comes from intimacy with Him, not from intellect alone. -
The Spirit of the Fear of the Lord
Deep reverence and awe for God. A heart that loves what God loves and turns away from anything that dishonors Him.
This is the Holy Spirit in His fullness — perfect, complete, overflowing with power and wisdom.
Revelation also references this fullness:
Revelation 4:5 NLT
Seven torches of fire were burning before the throne. These are the seven spirits of God.
Again, it is speaking of the Holy Spirit in His radiant completeness.
What this means for you:
The fullness of the Holy Spirit dwells in you.
Which means you are never without:
Strength
Wisdom
Clarity
Direction
Discernment
Reverence
Presence
He is not far away. He is not limited.
And you do not have to strive to earn more of Him.
You simply yield.
Just breathe and say:
Holy Spirit, rest on me. Fill me freshly today.
He delights to answer that prayer.
I am cheering you forward in this deepening walk with Him 🤍
You are not alone in it — He is with you, and I am with you too.
