Here is what He is after when He gives these gifts.

  1. Jesus is exalted
The Holy Spirit loves to shine the spotlight on Jesus, not on us. Gifts are meant to help people see who Jesus is and trust Him more deeply. John 16:14 NLT, 1 Corinthians 12:3 NLT

  2. The Church is strengthened and encouraged
These gifts are given for the common good, meaning they are designed to bless others, not just bless the person using them. They bring strengthening, encouragement, comfort, clarity, and direction when they are used in a healthy way. 1 Corinthians 12:7 NLT, 1 Corinthians 14:3 NLT

  3. Love is the atmosphere
Gods heart is that every gift flows through love. Without love, even the most dramatic gift becomes empty noise. Love keeps gifts pure, gentle, and safe for people. 1 Corinthians 13:1 to 7 NLT

  4. Unity, not competition
Gifts are not a ranking system. They are different expressions of the same Spirit, and every part matters. Gods heart is a body that honors each member and works together. 1 Corinthians 12:4 to 6 NLT, 1 Corinthians 12:12 to 27 NLT

  5. Humility and serving, not spotlight and self promotion
The gifts are tools for serving. God delights when people use them to wash feet, carry burdens, and strengthen the weary. 1 Peter 4:10 to 11 NLT, Romans 12:6 to 8 NLT

  6. Order and peace, not confusion
God cares about how gifts are expressed in gathered settings. His heart is peace, clarity, and edification so people can receive. 1 Corinthians 14:26 to 33 NLT, 1 Corinthians 14:40 NLT

  7. Maturity and holiness, not hype
God does not want gifts used as a substitute for character. He wants gifts and fruit together. The gifts can be powerful, but the fruit shows the Spirit formed life of Jesus in us. Galatians 5:22 to 23 NLT

  8. Mission and compassion
Gifts are also given to help us love people well and witness with power. They are not just for church meetings. They are for real life ministry, real people, real needs. Acts 1:8 NLT, 1 Corinthians 12:9 to 10 NLT

If we could wrap Gods heart into one sentence, it would be this
I will empower you by My Spirit so you can love My people well and make Jesus known. 1 Corinthians 12:7 NLT, 1 Peter 4:10 to 11 NLT
